Malaysia really rocks!

Mar 4th, 2009 | By Geri | Category: Batu Caves, Featured Page, Ipoh

Escaping from a a very cold and snowy winter here in the European Alps i decided to book a flight to Kuala Lumpur.

Wondering if there are any possibilities for climbing i discovered the web and i found this informative homepage. I got in touch with the putra climb community and  i was able to find climbing partners too.

Camp5
First i have been in Camp5 together with Zee. Camp5 is a big gym with a lot of possibilities. After some sportive activities we went together with friends of Zee for dinner and to discuss some holiday and – of course – climbing [...]

Yishun Climbing Community trip to Volleyball Court and Madrasah Al Rahman

Feb 1st, 2009 | By putra | Category: Batu Caves, Featured Page

We had the pleasure of a visit from the Yishun Climbing Community of Singapore last weekend. They had come up on the bus to 1Utama, and then stayed one night at the Madrasah Al Rahman next to the Volleyball Court wall of Batu Caves. They took two dorm rooms with 4 bunk beds each…. one room for the boys and the other for the girls. I had previously gone to check the rooms and made sure of their good condition. They were clean and comfortable and the bathrooms were “resort” style (as Joanna put it) with a door that opens [...]

Full House at Nanyang

Jan 25th, 2009 | By putra | Category: Batu Caves, Featured Page

A weekend after the Charity Climb, Nanyang was full again of climbers doing new and old routes. The usual kings of nanyang, GreenTrekkerz were there in their numbers, setting up hammocks and lazing under the shade of the rocks. There was a good mix of people there, experts like Shang and Shiwen together with newbies and newcomers being thought the ropes and given the run down.

Nanyang is a good place for climbers to go and climb on the weekends because of the crowd gathered there, especially if you a loner and dont have a belay buddy. Plenty of climbers there [...]

Madrasah Al-Rahman

Jan 18th, 2009 | By putra | Category: Batu Caves, Featured Page

The Madrasah Al-Rahman (or Relgious school of Rahman) is situated next to Batu Caves in Kuala Lumpur, in the section called Volleyball court. This enclosed area has been maintained by the authorities of the madrasah and there are some active construction work going on at present to further improve the facilities there. The place is clean and well looked after, and there is also some prep work at a cave to make it into a restaurant.

The madrasah has rooms to rent for climbers who would like to climb at Volleyball court and surrounding areas of Batu Caves. Accessibility to the [...]

Nanyang Reborn

Jan 15th, 2009 | By fang | Category: Batu Caves, Featured Page

It is a general truism in life that things go in and out of fashion. Crags are no exception to this and some of us have been around long enough to witness the cyclical blessings of the KL based rock climbing public fall on the various walls in Batu Caves. Crags that are in fashion tend to be more well cared for, like any favourite child, they’re livelier, better equipped, brighter and generally less grubby when compared to neglected climbing areas.

Nanyang has been through more ‘deaths’ and revivals than the rest, probably because it is one of the oldest crags [...]

Nanyang Wall – New Routes Set Up by Team GreenTrekkerz

Dec 15th, 2008 | By putra | Category: Batu Caves, Featured Page

We had heard rumours of new sport routes being set up at Nanyang Wall by Team GreenTrekkerz the previous weekend. We got there around 930 after Zee couldnt wake up after a long night out the previous night. Akandos had to wait for him. A thousand apologies to Akandos.

We did a warm up route on Nanyang Right which was the 1st pitch of “Outing”. (6a+, 23m, 9bolts), and were joined by Team GreenTrekkerz sometime close to 11am. They packed static ropes and drills and a bunch of equipment that looked scary. We hope to get them to name the [...]

Dry Season

Nov 25th, 2008 | By putra | Category: Batu Caves, Featured Page

We didnt have a camera to take any pictures. The sad story is that someones camera phone got snatched while walking in Bangsar and so we cant show you pictures for this climb. However, we can illustrate  somewhat the route of the climb as per below, and describe each pitch for your reference. If there is anyone out there who has pictures and more information of the various pitches, please comment this.

The 4 pitches were done on Jan’s 70 meter rope.

1st Pitch: 6C (5 Bolts) 15m – Jan

Very technical pitch which involves a lot of commitment to precariousresting positions [...]
