Putrajaya Challenge Park Climbing Gym
Oct 21st, 2009 | By putra | Category: Featured Page, Putrajaya Challenge ParkI have visited the gym yesterday and have seen many newby climbers and some familiar regulars as well, who are now busying themselves doing project routes on the massive overhanging wall there. The beginners are crowding the top rope routes at the back of the overhanging wall.
I have spoken to Shah (a.k.a. Abang Long) who manages the gym and he has informed me of some interesting facts that I shall hope to share with you all.
The gym is now open to the public. There is no entrance fee at present. Entry is FREE! Until prices have been finalized. So take advantage of its free entry status now to have a look and try the walls. The eventual entry charge is estimated to be within the range of RM7 to RM10 only.
The gym is open now from 10am to 8pm weekdays and 10am to 10pm Friday and Saturday. There is ample lighting at night and visibility is not a problem at all.
Heat however is a bit of an issue. The facility has no Air Conditioning and at present, no fans. All ventilation and cooling is from air movements through the facility doors that open directly to the outside of the building. Although this keeps the floor area reasonably cool, climbers on the walls further up will experience more heat and because of the poor air circulation higher up the wall, condensation increases causing heavy perspiration, and discomfort. So expect to sweat like a pig and bring lots of chalk, and a spare shirt and / or towel.
Rental of equipment is available as per below:
- Bouldering Package (Chalk Bag + Shoes) – RM9 (Adult), RM8 (Student)
- Top Rope Package (Harness + Belay Device + Chalk Bag + Shoes) – RM17 (Adult), RM15 (Student)
- Lead Climb Package (Rope + Harness + Belay Device + Chalk Bag + Shoes) – RM30 (Adult), RM25 (Student)
Classes
At the moment there is only a basic introductory wall climbing course for top rope available. If I remember correctly, the charge is RM60, although please call Abang Long for more information (012-6227034) and booking.

You can rent all the equipment there at very reasonable prices.
Just wear some sports wear and you will be good to go!

Hi m8.
So, it’s really difficult for me!
And I don’t like bothering others (i/e… YOU…
) to help me moving around, you know!
And do you know how much rock climbing shoes cost in Malaysia? ’cause I didn’t bring mines from Iran as I didn’t hope I could find a wall near Cyberjaya. I think it will be wiser to buy a pair of shoes rather than renting a pair each time I come to the gym! I don’t want to buy professional shoes, just some simple shoes that doesn’t slip on the wall!
Getting there from Cyberjaya would be a problem if you dont have a car.
I dont think buses go there, and its only a 5 minute drive. Taxis could take you there but perhaps getting one back would be a problem.
The best thing to do is to get in touch with a fellow resident who would also want to climb (i/e… ME…
) I can give you a lift there and back if you need a lift.

hi,
I’m currently living in Cyberjaya at the moment and I really want to go rock climbing again after coming to Malaysia. It’s really a good news that this gym has opened near Cyberjaya.
But I’m new to Malaysia and Putrajaya and don’t know about the bus routes. How do you recommend to a student to come to the gym? Is there any bus leaving putrajaya central for Jalan p5? if, no bus crossing there (I looked at the place in Google Earth and it seems there are no other buildings there
) And are there any taxis near the gym if there is no bus station?
I would appreciate your help a lot.
Yep..
Its free at the moment. There is a charge if you want to rent equipment. If you have your own, good on you!

Hi. I havent compiled a list of grades yet. Will take that action point and do it next week.
So far we have been trying 6b+, 6C+ routes on vertical and also overhanging routes. The overhanging routes are not technically difficult but are very tiring, and good training for endurance.
I will get back to you on the route grades
Just a quick question, with our own equipment(draws, belay….),can we just walk in and climb for free?
any idea how hard the grades go up to ???
This looks like a very nice place.I hope it is maintained in the long run
mee too!!
I like this place!
